Nick’s recalls

When we started ESB we heard that there was a plan to make a trilogy of trilogies, each 20 years apart, so that each would capture the interest of a new generation. That became official when it was mentioned in the press package released with Return of the Jedi.

22 years after the release of Ep IV, George kept to his plan and released the Prequel Trilogy. During the making of Ep III an established, but non official, source claimed to have interviewed George Lucas during which he is reported to have said “I won’t make the third trilogy. I will be too old”. As a result it has been widely circulated on the internet that the third trilogy will never be made.

THESE ARE MY COMMENTS...

If the same words that George is reported as saying are said with an emphasis on the word “I”...  then “I won’t make the third trilogy. I will be too old” only implies that George won’t direct the next movies. It doesn’t limit them from being directed by someone else. Fans often overlook the fact that George only directed the first of the classic trilogy movies... Ep IV. Irvin Kershner and Richard Marquand directed Ep V and VI.

MANY fans come into my gallery in St Maarten and tell me authoritatively that George Lucas will be too old to make the next trilogy... like they heard it from a reliable source! But George is known to provide false names and misleading info before his projects are released AND when he first devised the plan he knew exactly how old he would be by the time he finished.

Furthermore, he now has “animatics”, a computer program that allows him to plan everything needed for the next three movies, (shot by shot, layer by layer), NOW. The synopsis for the story lines was undoubtedly done over two decades ago. Similarly, the animatics for the next trilogy could have done 5 years ago. If so, when the time comes, another director can follow that plan and make the movies while George acts as Executive Producer... as he was on the indianna Jones movies.

It is estimated that they have made 44 billion dollars in Star Wars related sales. Do you really think they will pass on another 22 billion... or more?

I do NOT have any inside confirmation, but I see no reason why George would abandon the original plan and I expect Episode VII to be released somewhere between 2018-2020.
