Crew Profiles: Dick Smith
Anyone who read The Dick Smith Connection already knows the my opionin of Dick and the immense influence he has had on the development of special effect make-up over the past 55 years. Here are a few other facts.
Dick was born Richard Emerson Smith in Larchmont, N.Y. on June 26th 1922 and continued to live there until a couple of years ago. He aquired a BA at Vale University in 1944 and was appointed the Director of the first TV make-up dept. at NBC-TV (N.Y.C.) in 1945 -59.
He married Joycelyn De Rosa on January 10th 1949 and they had two children: Douglas Todd, David Emerson. They are still together today.
Dick stayed with NBC until 1959 when he became Director of Make-up for David Susskind Productions, N.Y.C. (1959-61). Since 1961 he has worked as a freelance make-up artist/consultant/designer with numerous credits including:

He has been a consultant lecturer at the Yoyogi Animation School, Tokyo, since 1992 and is the author of: The Advanced Professional Make-up Course. (Best course in the world but only available to experienced professionals.)
