Cast Profiles: Natalie Portman..

Rumor Alert! Am I imagining it or is a lot being made of this piece of casting? Clearly Natalie Portman has been cast to make the age jump to Episode II, but from the storyline I have for Episode I this is a comparatively small part. I wonder if Lucasfilm have a surprise in store for us.

Natalie Portman has quickly established herself as one of Hollywood's most talented young actresses. She made her feature debut in Luc Besson's The Professional for which she received international acclaim. Starring opposite Jean Reno and Gary Oldman, Natalie plays Mathilde, a young girl who seeks refuge from a hitman after her parents are killed by a corrupt DEA officer. Natalie's performance was hailed by critics and received a "Best Actress in Drama" nomination for the Hollywood Reporter-sponsored YoungStar Awards.

Natalie was most recently seen in the Woody Allen musical Everyone Says I Love You co-starring Julia Roberts, Goldie Hawn, Alan Alda and Drew Barrymore. In Tim Burton's black comedy Mars Attacks! from Warner Brothers, Natalie portrayed Taffy Dale, the president's teenage daughter who helps defend the White House when the U.S. is invaded by Mars, with Jack Nicholson and Glenn Close as her parents.

Natalie received accolades last year for her scene-stealing performance in Ted Demme's Beautiful Girls opposite Timothy Hutton, Uma Thurman, Rosie O'Donnell and Matt Dillon from Miramax.

Natalie was also recently seen as Al Pacino's stepdaughter in Michael Mann's crime saga Heat with Robert De Niro, Val Kilmer and Diane Venora, from Warner Bros.

Natalie will make her Broadway debut this Fall in the title role of The Diary of Anne Frank for director James Lapine.

Natalie is an honors student who enjoys writing, dancing and spending time with her friends.
