Schools
Make-up schools. We can not recommend any particular make-up schools. Nick advises...."Most FX make-up designers put store by portfolios... not certificates. If you do a 6 or 12 week course don't think that makes you a pro. Generally speaking, courses are only good in pointing you in the right direction (although some point you in the wrong direction). They may help you persuade an established pro to take you on as a trainee. I used to teach at Middlesex Polytechnic (now Middlesex University) back in the early 70's. As soon as I was good enough to work in movies full time I gave it up! Rick Baker and Stan Winston don't teach class. Most quality pros don't work for teacher's pay either."
This is what we have found.
Complections International We don't understand why this film/TV make-up school doesn't show pics of their work.
FX-Masters - Special Makeup Effects Training The free sample looks encouraging. It's online training. Pay as you go. The work looks professional ... although we don't see any credits.
Studio makeup academy Doesn't really tell you much.
Westmore academy From Hollywood's most renowned make-up dynasty.
