Q. How long does the domain name registration
process take to be completed?
A. You will receive confirmation from
1001resources.com shortly after registering a name,
but the length of time needed to complete the
process is dependent upon the updating of the Whois
database which we have NO control over. It is
usually about 48 hours. However that's not the end
of the story as your name will never point to your
site unless.... for a regular domain name:
the name servers for your host must be submitted
via your on-line control panel, or for a
redirectable domain name: you MUST have told us
the URL that you want the name to point to either
via your registration form or via email to
1001@1001resources.com.

Q. Does 1001resources.com have any interest
in the domain names it registers?
A. Not unless the registration was processed
via
1001DiscreteServices.com.
1001resources.com takes no stake in the names it
registers.
{Top}
Q. How much does it cost to register a domain
name?
A. 1001resources.com charges a fee of $24.99 a
year for our MANAGED domain name service. This
allows busy net dwellers to get on with their
websites while our account manager worries about
DNS pointers and CLOKED EMAIL REDIRECTION to your
regular email account. more about
DNS. This applies to all .com, .net and , .org
domain names and INCLUDES internic fees.
{Top}
Q. Will internic bill me something too?
A. NO. The fee covers BOTH internic costs and
1001resources.com fees.
{Top}
Q. Do I own the domain name I
register?
A. Yes, unless YOU name an alternative owner,
administrative and billing contact
{Top}
Q. Can I TRANSFER a domain name from another
registrar?
A. Yes. Just Search for a domain name and you will
be offered that option.
{Top}
Q. How long does it take to TRANSFER a domain
name?
A. As you can imagine, registrars such as Network
Solutions are not thrilled about loosing business
to another registrar. Whether they drag their feet
or not we can't say but it can take up to a week.
{Top}
Q. How long until the whois database is
updated for my name?
A. It will probably take 2-3 days after
confirmation for the whois database to be updated.
This is beyond our control.

Q. How do I register multiple domain names
?
A. At this time you have to do theme one at a
time.

Q. How does a domain name work and why does
it affect the type of domain name option that I
need?
A. Try this analogy.....
Imagine that someone wants to find you in a busy
metropolis. First he needs to know your name. He
looks up your name in the official voters record
and is directed to the receptionist at your large
apartment building where you reside with several
thousand other people. The receptionist then
provides him with your specific apartment number
where you can be found.
In simplistic terms the internet is designed to
operate in the same way. In order for
someone a
surfer to
find you in a busy metropolis
internet he
first needs to know your name
domain name. He
looks up your name in the official
voters internic record and is directed to the
receptionist name server at your
large apartment building web host where
you your
site resides with several thousand other
people
sites. The receptionist
name server
then provides him the surfer with your
specific apartment number IP address (something like 216.221.162.82)
where you your site can be found.
This all happens in a few seconds but if any
segment of this collection of connections is
missing the surfer fails to find you. If you
officially rent server space from either us or
another ISP then you ARE conforming with the design
specifications of the internet and can tap directly
into the registrar's rather inflexible system.
HOWEVER.... now imagine that instead of having
your own apartment somewhere you are staying with a
friend or in a homeless shelter and may wander off
to another location at any time. You may have a
name and even be in the voters record BUT you don't
have a specific apartment number and there's no
receptionist to tell anyone where you are. The
system breaks down. In order to be found you need
an official contact point with a receptionist who
can redirect enquiries to wherever you may be
living at at any particular time.
Here's the internet version.....instead of
having your own apartment
somewhere rented
server space with an ISP you are
staying with a friend using a third level domain
(such as
http://SomeHost/YourSite/ ) or in a
homeless shelter a FREE web page and may
wander off relocate to another
location free page at any
time. You may
have a name domain name and even be
in the voters internic record BUT you
don't have a specific apartment
number IP
address and there is no
receptionist name server to tell
anyone where you are your site is. The system
breaks down. In order to be found
you your
site needs an official contact
point an agent
such as 1001DiscountDomains with a
receptionist who name server that can
redirect enquiries to wherever you may be
living your site
may be located at any particular time.
If you are going to use a FREE website or a
third level domain, then you are NOT conforming
with the internet's design specifications. BUT our
MANAGED DOMAIN NAME
SERVICE can overcome that and "redirect" your
name via OUR nameservers to ANY ACCOUNT ON ANY
SERVER (including free ones) for just $24.99 a
year.

Q. Do regular and redirectable domain names
both come with online control panels?
A. No. Only the regular ones do.
{Top}
Q. Is there a charge to make changes to the
redirect script?
A. Yes. $5.00 per change.
{Top}
Q. What is a name server?
A. It is a server at your ISP that acts like a
receptionist and directs the DNS enquiry to your
specific directory. Read this
explanation

server addresses?
A. If you use
our feature packed
350MB hosting package we will do everything
for you. If not....
Paid server elsewhere... after
registration, inform your ISP of your new domain
name and ask your him for the IP address of his
primary and secondary name servers. We will send

Free host somewhere... During registration

{Top}
Q. What do I have to do if I want change the
URL my domain name is redirected to?
A. Visit the 1001resources member's area
at
http://1001resources.com/members/
. Open the "Make changes" link. Fill in the new
information. Send.
{Top}
Q If I'm uncomfortable managing my (regular)
domain name myself will you do it for me?
A. The control panel is VERY easy to use. The
only technical issue relates to your name server
which your host will provide, but the answer to the
question is "Yes", we will manage it for you and
charge $5 each time you want to make changes.
{Top}
Q. My domain name is registered, but my web
browser is saying that it has no DNS. Why?
A. Firstly, it can take a little time to
do the behind the scenes work needed to complete
the process. It will be 24-48 hours for your domain
to be entered into the Whois database. Only then
will the links that connect to your domain be
visible worldwide. Secondly, you must
provide the necessary name server information
(supplied by your server) and your server must then
point to your specific directory before the
connection is complete. If you are hosting with
1001resources'
powerful 300MB
hosting package we will do all that for you.
{Top}
Q. When I make modifications to my regular
domain name record via my personal control panel
how long before the changes take effect?
A. It is usually immediate but allow 5 minutes.
Name Server pointing may take considerably longer.
{Top}
Q. With a redirect facility can I type
www.YourName.com/FolderName/ into a browser and get
to a folder within my domain?
A. Not at this time.
{Top}
Q. I have forgotten my password, how can I
get it?
A.Regular:
Redirectable: email
1001@1001resources.com
and request us to sent it to you. It will be
emailed to the email address that you gave us
during registration.
{Top}
Q. Does 1001resources.com D.N.R. offer a
reseller program?
A. At the prices we charge there isn't enough
profit to allow for a reseller program.
{Top}
Q. I got part way through the registration
process, but did not complete, can I go back?
A. Sure you can so long as someone else hasn't
snapped up the name. Just go through the process
again. If the system will not accept the domain
name email 1001@1001resources.com to see if we have
parked the name pending processing. Include your
user name and password.
How
do we do it? Well,
1001resources.com is an
authorized RSP (registration service provider) for
OpenSRS, a SLD (second level domain name)
registration service for the .com, .net and .org
namespace... names like YourName.com, YourName.net
and YourName.org. OpenSRS is not directly
accessible by the general public. It is designed
for "Internet Solution Providers" like
1001resources.com who
process registrations for end users/organizations
as part of their solution offering. The system is
managed by Canadian internet giant
TUCOWS, The Ultimate Collection Of Worthwhile Software, purported to be
the worlds largest software download network. It is
fully accredited by ICANN, (the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers empowered by the U.S
federal government to oversee the evolution of the
internet), and talks directly to Network
Solutions proprietary structures. (Don't you
just love all these nerdy abbreviations?)
What
is a domain name? It's a unique name used to
identify, among other things, a specific Web
site... it becomes your permanent address on the
Internet...... Your Web Address (YourName.com).....
and directs visitors to your home on the Web. It
can also be used as part of your e-mail address to
reinforce your online identity (You@YourName.com).
Whether you want to cash in on the e-commerce
revolution or simply seek a deluxe home page, it's
the best way to establish an online identity.
Try searching the database
for an available domain name NOW before someone
else grabs it!
What
is a .com web address A domain name ending in
.com is recognized worldwide as an online business,
but as .com addresses get used up .net and .org are
also becoming widely used.
