This article about Nick 's galleries appeared in the 1998 "Life in Antigua" magazine.... Ergo

If you like art, movies or both, a visit to the ISLAND ARTS GALLERIES is a must. Besides offering delightful artworks and terrific deals, you may meet international artist, movie make-up wizard, and EMMY nominee Nick Maley, who was a key collaborator in the creation of YODA for the Hollywood blockbuster STARWARS. Nick traded his Ferrari for a sail boat in 1985 when he and his wife Gloria settled in Antigua.

Having exhibited at the ROYAL ONTARIO MUSEUM and the Dominican Republic's MUSEUM OF MODERN ART, Nick's paintings recently completed a three year world tour with the UNITED NATION's CARIB ART exhibition. His celebrated works reflect the serenity of simple living, a dry sense of humor, a sensitive understanding of the human condition and have been exhibited in 17 countries worldwide. Incredibly, Nick also contributed to 53 movies, including the SUPERMAN and HIGHLANDER sagas, and worked alongside megastars such as MARLON BRANDO, KATHERINE HEPBURN, ANTHONY HOPKINS and ROBERT REDFORD. He was featured in CINEMAX and HBO specials, won a place in THE GUINNESS BOOK OF WORLD RECORDS, and graced the cover of AMERICAN CINEMATOGRAPHER. In 1996, his directing debut won a medal at the worlds largest film festival, with over 3400 entries from 38 countries. His latest endeavor, YodaGuy.com, is a unique web hub that incorporates a huge archive of movie inside stories and rare photographs with information on Nick and his work. It also provides support for secondary trading in Nick's artwork, and is fast becoming a cyberspace hotspot.

On busy ship days Nick can usually be found signing prints at ISLAND ARTS, upstairs at HERITAGE QUAY DUTY FREE CENTER. There can be quite a crush as passengers clamber to invest in the growing value of Nick's artwork. This compact gallery specializes in affordable Caribbean Art, Nick's spectacular prints and his delightful hand crafted miniature Antiguan houses. Since these unique items are offered at the lowest prices anywhere in the world, haggling is generally frowned upon. But be assured that whether you invest in one of Nick's elite originals or one of his decorative fine art reproductions, you will save 25-50% of the current list prices.

Nick's home and studio, is located on Sandy Lane, directly behind the Hodges Bay Club, only 4 miles from St. Johns. This elegant residence surrounded by lush gardens and tropical birds is open by chance or appointment, but you will usually find someone there Monday, Wednesday & Thursday afternoon. It houses a large collection of originals by acclaimed regional artists, monthly exhibitions and a rare insight into the mind of this esteemed artist and film maker. To be sure that Nick will be home call 461 6324.
