AntiguaNewsletter J_002 From Nick Maley, Island Arts & AntiguaToday.com
Dear friends
It's a beautiful sunny day here in Antigua. The still air that always follows the wrath of a hurricane has given way to our normal pleasing trade winds so those of us still without power don't get too overheated.
Talking about power I see that many of my neighbors skirting the Hodges Bay area are switched back on and I am sure my trusty generator is desperate for a break.
I'm just writing to let you know that there was a major update at our hurricane hotline http://AntiguaToday.com/hurricanes last night and there will be another within 48 hours. It covers all the hotels that I have news about to date, more photos and a lot more besides.
You can read the PM's national address at http://sourceab.com/oct22/speech.html if you like too.
I spend a lot of time telling you about our recovery here but let me take a moment for the FEW unfortunate victims. Crab Hill was badly devastated again. The eye of Jose passed over us just as Georges did. That meant that the wind direction was almost identical and the areas that got the worst if it in Georges.... got the worst of it in Jose too. Many of the SAME PEOPLE have lost homes and businesses and I feel for them at this difficult time. I have been talking to other business people here about trying to set up a relief fund for them. Economically we are hurting too so I am interested in any ideas about how we can proceed with this as well as any contributions that readers can organize. Cash isn't the only way to contribute. These people need tarpaulins, food, building materials and shelter. Any advice or help is greatly appreciated.
More in a day or two
Nick Maley
