HURRICANE JOSE DAMAGE REPORTS

Dickenson Bay - A cursory look at Dickenson Bay revealed no problems that would trouble a visitor to our fair shores. More in time.

Runnaway Beach - Sunday 23nd Oct. 1999: I took this photo of the beach at Sandhaven Hotel THIS EVENING. Like most beaches it is untouched by the storm, in fact Jose may have deposited more sand than was originally there. As the sun set, locals enjoyed a sunset drink at Lashings, the hotel's popular bar and restaurant perched right on the waters edge. You can see a few tourists swimming in the now tranquil sea.

Half Moon Bay - Martha Watkins Gilkes gilkesm@candw.ag of FANTA-SEA ISLAND LTD., ANTIGUA, WEST INDIES reports:

"Finally got to the beach to check out what many feel is THE MOST BEAUTIFUL BEACH ON THE ISLAND! The beach is not nearly as damaged as in past hurricanes. It is still a magnificent 20 foot wide beach; there is some sand erosion up at the highest point exposing some rocks. This will probably be recovered as sand washes back ashore. There is a garbage and mess on the beach but am sure this will be cleaned up. Harry's Bar....the local bar near Half Moon, lost all the roof (blew across the road)... but Harry went and dragged it home and it is already tacked back in place."
