Palmetto Beach Hotel, Barbuda

I had the pleasure of dropping by The Palmetto Beach Hotel when the Jolly Harbour Yacht Club had it's annual Barbuda race. I have to say that it is a beautiful secluded spot with a large swimming pool overlooking the idyllic sandy beach at Palmetto Point . When it comes to sandy beaches, Barbuda is extremely blessed, which more than makes up for the islands dry, rather scrubby, foliage. You can wander for hours along it's pristine shores and will probably see no more than a couple of people. In fact The Palmetto Hotel boasts 24 junior suites, on 11 miles of white sand.

Unfortunately they were closed when I passed by so I can't comment on their final decor or services, (if you stay there this season email me with your thoughts), but I did get a look at their rooms which were deceptively roomy with sofa, coffee table, air conditioning and a patio overlooking the sea. Suites have two queen-size beds, a mini bar and safety deposit box. Verandas are covered.

Pool-side terrace & restaurant. Italian chef prepares international cuisine. Bar service and lunch is also available at the beach.

The down side was that they are not cheap... unless you compare them with K- Club and the pool is NOT as big as it looks in the photo. The upside... the beach is breathtaking and deserted.
