This attractive and very popular resort was completely rebuilt after hurricane Luis. The beach is quite beautiful and it is one of the few places on Antigua's West coast the jets a little surf. It is a little remote if you don't have a car but the hotel organizes regular mini buses into St. Johns each day.

Set amid 40 acres of tropical gardens, Galley Bay is located 25 minutes (8 miles) from V.C. Bird International Airport and 10 minutes (4 miles) from the capital city of St. John's and offers exquisite dining, water sports, tennis, and a unique charm all its own.. It has a lagoon and bird sanctuary on one side and a 3/4-mile stretch white sand beach on the other. The atmosphere is intimate with breathtaking views and the gentle roar of the sparkling Caribbean sea.

Antigua Resorts offer a range of 4 hotels in Antigua each with a distinct personality and different levels of cost and exclusivity. Royal Antiguan is their economy hotel. St James is more formal and mid market. Jolly Harbour is practically a town! Galley Bay is the smallest and most intimate. It is probably their most up market and their guests who stop by my downtown gallery tare always very complementary.

The resort has 70 guest rooms in five categories. All accommodations feature air conditioning, ceiling fans, custom-designed rattan and bamboo furniture, wooden louvered windows, terra-cotta tiled floors, hair dryers, coffee machines, a king-sized bed, private bath with shower, bathrobes, a balcony or patio and an in-room safe

• GAUGUIN COTTAGES are my personal favorite for its character and individuality but may be a little intimate and rustic for some visitors. Situated on the edge of a bird sanctuary lagoon, just 75 yards from the beach, these romantic cottages consist of two separate thatched roof rondavels (a bedroom and a boudoir/bathroom connected by a covered breezeway/patio between the two). These unique, romantic cottages feature cool, white-washed walls and open rafter ceilings with ceiling fans.
• SUPERIOR BEACHFRONT ROOM - Traditional, single level rooms located directly on the water, just three seconds from bed to beach, with breezy patios on the seaside. Quintessential Caribbean with modern amenities.
• DELUXE BEACHFRONT ROOM - These rooms are well-appointed and spacious, larger than the Superior Beachfront rooms, with walk-in closets, large beach patios (with beach shower) and modern designer bathrooms. Walk out onto the beach from the lower level rooms. Second floor rooms have private balconies with spectacular ocean views. All rooms have private entrances.
• PREMIUM BEACHFRONT SUITE - These spacious suites feature Polynesian furnishings, over 700 square feet of living area and oversized bathrooms with tubs. As with the Deluxe Beachfront rooms, first floor rooms feature large patios with beach showers while second floor rooms have private balconies with spectacular ocean views.

  RESTAURANTS:

• The Sea Grape Restaurant offers indoor/outdoor eating. Beachside, there is a la carte dining serving award-winning, Creole and Euro-Caribbean cuisine. Breakfast, lunch and dinner are served from a la carte menus.
• Gauguin Restaurant is smaller, more intimate, casual, grill-type fare, located beachside.
• The Teepee Bar is a characterful cone-shaped, thatched-roof bar located beachside. This is a favorite gathering place to sip sundowners and watch the sun slip into the Caribbean Sea. Hors d'oeuvres are served in the early evening around 5:30 p.m.
• Lounge Bar is open from 7:00 p.m. Perfect for an evening apéritif.

  This is one of the few hotels with a published DRESS CODE. Generally dress is casual during the day provided that you wear shoes and cover ups in the restaurants and lobby. However they say "After 6:30 PM, for men - slacks or tailored Bermuda length shorts are fine, along with collared shirts (no "short shorts", cutoffs, jeans, T-shirts or tank tops, please). For women - dresses, skirts, slacks, culottes or tailored Bermuda-length shorts are wonderful (but please, no "short shorts", cutoffs or jeans)."

  Antigua Resorts specialize in romantic tropical weddings in beautiful surroundings. A gazebo overlooking the sea is very popular for that purpose but you can be married on the beach if you like. They do a package for U.S. $660.00 which includes registrar costs and ceremony charges, government fees, garden flower bouquet, boutonniere for the groom, wedding cake, a bottle of champagne, taxes and gratuities.   SNORKELING:

  Limited but nice snorkeling can be found at the north end of the beach where a small secluded shell beach is located.
