Antigua Village on Dickenson Bay is just one of those in Antigua.Antigua Village is a sizable condo development on Dickenson Bay which is operated by the villa owners themselves (so it is well maintained). Two story buildings surround attractive planted gardens adjacent to the sea. Within the development is The Beach restaurant and nearby are several other good places to eat. Facilities include a kitchen for self catering and it has more of a community spirit than a regular hotels. Very reasonably priced time share has made this a popular spot for return visitors.

A casino and many other restaurants are a short walk away.

Dickenson Bay is a beautiful beach on the lee of the island where the sea is usually quite calm. There is more to do there than most beaches in Antigua and it was my favorite when I used to visit as a tourist 17 years ago.

Just got back from a splendid honeymoon at Antigua Village where the accomodations were very comfortable and weliked being near the activity of Dickenson Bay!

Antigua Paddles (Monday) - Great fun and great bargain! Excellent for couples and families as Conrad and Jennie are great with children! As a bonus we thoroughly enjoyed being escorted to/from Dickenson Bay by members of the crew who were full of answers to our questions about the island!

Horseback Riding (Monday Afternoon) - OK, for all of you who've ridden a horse it's probably laughable to pay $40 forthis. For us, though, we met up with several other honeymooners who became our friends for the week and the bar up at Fort James gets my vote for the coolest place on the island to drink a beer! Folks in Dickenson Bay see Joseph and tell him if he wants my Adidas bag to send me an email or something!

Eli's Eco Tour (Tuesday) - Very Cool! Lunch on Bird Island was outstanding! My favorite part was swimming out to Hell's Rock or whatever and climbing through the caves! My wife liked the fact that our tour guides, Kale and Stevey (sp?), were quick to jump right in the water with the rest of the tour folks! Didn't get to meet Eli but we did get to see some pretty good kite surfing close-up while enjoying a different (and superior) version of rum punch!!!

Sentio Yacht (Friday) - Fabulous! Capt'n John is a great host full of colorful stories of the Who's Who in and out of Antigua and on and off the Sentio! The lunch, the champagne, the swimming/diving, and just being under sail just off the island with Montserrat looming on the horizon were all wonderful! If we'd had one more day I'd have spent it diving in and out of the bars around English Harbour!!!

Restaurants I'd recommend: Commisioner's Grill (St. John's) - Best meal we had all week! From the appetizer's to the entrees to the drinks everything was terrific and worth the price! Riviera Casino (Dickenson Bay) - Great meal and great value. All of our meals were outstanding and the prices are reasonable!

Our breakfast of choice was the banana pancakes and omelettes at The Beach (by Antigua Village) and I really liked theircheeseburgers, too!

And our favorite Taxi driver was a guy named William (464-0588). Extremely punctual and reliable and he never made us pay until AFTER THE RETURN trip! On our last day we had him drop us off in St. John's, keep all of our luggage with him while we shopped, and pick us up to take us to the airport!

Antigua Village was developed on the site of a coconut

plantation situated at the ocean's edge on Dickenson Bay,

one of the best beaches in Antigua. It is a collection of

exclusive, privately owned apartments set in beautiful

tropical gardens. Some are ground level, others are second

floor, and there are a few third floor studio apartments

around the pool. The apartments vary in size. Each is

furnished, equipped and decorated to the individual taste of

the owner. All are fully equipped for self-catering. The

village is 20 minutes drive from the airport and 10 minutes

from the capital, St. Johns.

The Village is divided up into:

Studios - Suites - Villas - Houses - Superior Houses

All of the units have air conditioning, ceiling fans and

furnished patios. The fully equipped kitchens have

microwaves, refrigerators and full size cookers. The tiled bathrooms have full size baths and/or showers. Each unit has a

telephone, cable television and a built-in safe. There is a reception, maintenance team and 24 hour security. Daily maid

service and beach towels are provided. Cots/cribs are available on request.

Every effort will be made to provide you with the accommodation that you request, but from time to time specifically

requested units may not be available, in which case a similar unit will be offered.

Antigua Village trip report

Antigua Village Beach Club - Report

Departing from London Gatwick (LGW) on 14 Sept 02, we left some 1.5 hours late (something about a dirty seat

cover, then missing our slot!). On arrival at Antigua V.C. Bird (ANU), I have to say it was slow going through their

customs controls as it took at least an hour to clear. Having done so, a taxi was arranged for our journey to

Dickenson Bay.

Antigua Village

On arrival at Antigua Village, it was clear to see this was a nicely laid out resort with beautifully planned

flora/shrubs/trees etc. Reception was helpful as were the security guys who assisted us with our baggage to and

from our condo 43B).

The room was spacious, with air conditioning, ceiling fan and all the internal amenities needed. A separate en-suite

bathroom/shower/toilet is also provided. The balcony was generous with a nice view of the beach.

At then beach end of the resort are 2 (two) bar/restaurants. The Beach and Coconut Grove. Both offer bar facilities

and dining, but The Beach edges it on points for me (the Pina Coladas are to die for). Outside the resort is Putters

restaurant. Great value food and drink, and only a short walk away.

Overall, Antigua Village will in my opinion offer you a great base and location (Sandal's and Rex Halcyon are both

a short walk up the beach next to Antigua Village).

You can for US$75 per person per day buy a pass from Sandals reception, which will entitle you to the use of their

non-motorised facilities/gym and bar. In addition, breakfast and lunch. Not bad eh! However, we did not make use

of this facility.

Beware! Beach vendors! Once you have left the security of your resort and go onto the beach itself you are fair

game for the vendors. I found this annoying after being continuously approached. How many times I said "no

thankyou", I do not know. It will get tiresome . . . trust me!

In conclusion, albeit we visited during the very quiet part of the season, we none the less enjoyed our stay

immensely, and our thanks go to all the staff at the resort for their kind and friendly welcome. Find them at:

www.antiguavillage.net or http://dickensonbay.com

Taxi Drivers

William Mills (TX 711). Nice guy, looked after us very well. Call him on: 464-0588 (cell phone). Roger Maginley.

Call: 723-2452 (cell phone). Another great guy, like William, very personable.

Nick Maley (The YodaGuy)

We visited him and his lovely wife Gloria (Meg Ryan) at his studio in St. John's and at his home. A really nice man

with many stories to tell. His original artwork and those of other local artists is exquisite. Star Wars fans should

make a point of visiting. On a personal note, thankyou Nick and Gloria for making us so welcome, not to mention

the sailing. The moonlight race was to die for.

We also met D.C. Cindy and Skip at the gathering. You guys were great, as was the meal at Chutney's afterwards.

Thanks to everyone. A night to remember.

Shirley Height's - Sunday PM

What can I say? Just go there and soak up the atmosphere. The steel band is awesome. The reggae band is very

good too. Do not buy the EC$10 drinks voucher on the way in, as the booze is cheaper than the ticket price. Not to

be missed.

Sentio - Cap'n John

Cap'n John and his 50ft yacht 'Sentio' are located at English Harbour. Both he and the lovely Karen (first mate I

think!), took us sailing to Jolly Harbour with a stop-off for snorkelling and lunch en-route (not forgetting the beer!).

A great way to spend a day. So personable, this is a trip not to be missed . . the price is good too. Thank you both.

Find him at: www.sail-antigua.com

Dolphin Fantaseas

Located next to Antigua Village opposite the Riviera Casino and restaurant. Cost for a session is US$ 105 which I

thought was a bit steep. However, this for some is a once in a lifetime opportunity to interact with Dolphins. The

facility seemed well organised. You will not see the Dolphins performing tricks etc, but you will get to get into the

water with them, have your picture taken and have a memory to treasure. There is a Stingray pool too.

St John's

If you like shopping, and jewellery is your vice, then this is probably the place for you. Apart from that, check out

both Heritage and Redcliffe Quays. Some unique shops (including Island Arts &endash; The YodaGuy), and the Big

Banana bar/restaurant. I have a list of web addresses for the jewellery shops should you need them.

If anyone has any questions, please ask via e-mail. I have many web addresses etc and a certain degree of

information that may be useful.
